(obliquus capitis superior, obliquus capitis inferior, rectus capitis posterior major, rectus capitis posterior minor)

Origin = Posterior surfaces of the first two cervical vertebrae.

Insertion = Occipital bone and transverse process of the first cervical vertebrae.

Action =

One side - Lateral flexion of the cervical spine and rotation to the same side.

Both Sides - Extension and hyperextension f the atlantooccipital joint.
