Origin = Crest of the ilium; thoracolumbar fascia; lateral half of the inguinal ligament.

Insertion = Linea alba; cartilages of the four lower ribs.

Action =

One side - Lateral flexion of the spine and rotation to the same side.

Both Sides - Flexion of the spine.
