Origin = Lower eight ribs; interweaves with serratus anterior.

Insertion = Anterior portion of the iliac crest; crest of the pubis by way of the linea alba

Action =

One side - Lateral flexion of the spine and rotation to the opposite side.

Both Sides - Flexion of the spine.
