Essay

33-36.Athletes who think they will succeed probably will. Their minds are completely concentrating on performance, envisioning the achievement of their goals, and not worrying about failure. When playing against a good team, the underrated team may perform more impressively than the other because the players aspire to win and are determined to upset the good team. Successful athletes have a high level of aspiration and constantly raise these levels and goals even after experiencing failure. Athletes who experience mostly failure tend to have low levels of aspiration and desert the sport at some point.

37-41.The progressive relaxation technique involves the athlete alternately contracting and relaxing his or her muscles. The athlete gets in a comfortable position, tenses a muscle from 5 to 7 seconds, and then relaxes it from 20 to 30 seconds while consciously relaxing as much as possible. This is repeated until all tension is gone. The whole body goes through this process. Also, expressions for relaxing may be used, such as, "Relax," "Let the tension flow out of the body," and "Let the tension dissolve."
